The Human Condition

Part 1:
All you Lazy Lazy people...

Is it me... Well that’s not a phrase you should start any conversation with; but anyway... Is it me or are people becoming more and more lazy? The number of clients I deal with who really can’t be bothered doing their own work... it makes me want to spit! And they are the ones getting paid the big bucks but who is it that ends up doing the leg & creative work? Moi! I should start charging them for my time. If only I could. Or if I could get their clients to patronise me. In fact at times I could swear some clients are just plain stupid and clueless.

In the words of AE Houseman... (the first 2 lines anyway; the rest are mine)
The stars have not dealt me the worst they could do:
My pleasures are plenty, my troubles are two.
They’re the work and the clients that take up my time.
Without them every day would be just fine

It’s a standing joke in retail stores and in offices the world over... we’d get so much more done and have a nice time if it weren’t for customers!

Part 2:
And... Why Do Humans have selective memories?
Second gripe of the week... Sorry I have to get it all out at once... why do people (especially retail customers) choose to remember events as some twisted, distorted, gnarled untruth and not what actually happened. In fact, they blatantly fib to get what they want!

This is not a new thing. I have been witness to this for as long as I have worked in all my capacities with the general public. This is something that you should be taught at school...

NEWTON’S FINAL LAW OF HUMAN NATURE: PEOPLE LIE! ....... A LOT!

So beware if you are in the habit of doing this with shop assistants and customer service staff... they know & they’re onto you! They’re not as stupid as you think they are.

Why oh why do I feel in a permanent state of confusion? In particular, when it comes to my choice of careers... or lack thereof.

Tonight I was reminded of why I even contemplated medicine as a career. Not that that’s what I do, but I have seriously... and I mean SERIOUSLY... contemplated taking yet another degree, this time in medicine. It’s not enough in being Helen, Fayette and Janet (the Three Degrees). Is there any way I can combine everything I am interested in other than by becoming Jonathon Miller? The whole point is that I would like to have about 3 or 4 different lives running in tandem then I could do everything I want to do within my lifetime, instead of feeling like I am doing nothing that I want to do. I know I am not alone in this... I would like to write, perform, sing , act...... paint and yet I also am also fascinated with all things veterinary and medical. Oh what a tangled web....

I actually do think I should have been Jonathon Miller.

Oh well.. on with that elusive novel that I know is lurking somewhere inside of me. If only I could find it.
